How to Create Master Page in Page Maker 7.0

Adobe first delivered PageMaker 7, the final version of its stored desktop publishing software, in 2001, and encouraged users to move to their new publishing software - InDesign - shortly thereafter. If you are using PageMaker 7.0, you can automatically number pages of a document in the style you designed using your document's master page feature. A master page includes basic design elements such as headers, footers, page numbers, nonprinting guides, columns, guides, and margin guides.
In addition to using the default document master in your publication, you can create a master page from scratch, or a master based on an existing master or publication page. If you have multiple master pages that share one or more design features - such as the position and formatting of page numbers, you can save time by designing or spreading document master pages.
To create a new master page you need to follow some of the following steps:
  • First open a document in PageMaker 7.0.
  • Click on the text tool from the toolbox.
  • Click the L / R function under the ruler in the lower left corner of the screen to open the master page.
  • Using the text tool, drag a text block to the master page near the area where you want the page number to appear.
  • Then click on the Windows Menu and select Show Master Page.
  • Now choose New Master page from the master page palette, or click on the New master button at the bottom of the palette.

  • Type a name for the master page and set whether you want a page or two page spread.
  • If your publication is single-side, set the margin, number of columns, and space between columns.
  • If you are creating a two-page master spread, be sure to set the column and the distance between them to the left and right hand pages.
  • Then click on Ok.
